Docker basics

Create a container

1. Create a Dockerfile in a project directory
2. Edit the dockerfile:

# syntax=docker/dockerfile:1

FROM node:18-alpine
WORKDIR /app
COPY . .
RUN yarn install --production
CMD ["node", "src/index.js"]
EXPOSE 3000

1. Build the image

docker build -t [container-name] .

Runing a container

docker run -dp 127.0.0.1:3000:3000 [container-name]

List running containers

docker ps

Updating a container

1. Make change in the code
2. Stop the container: docker stop <container-id>
3. Delete the old container: docker rm <container-id>
4. Start the new one: docker start -dp 127.0.0.1:3000:3000 [container-name]
